Traveling from Tenjin to Seinan University:
By Subway
- In Tenjin, find your way to the Tenjin Subway Station. The closer you are to the intersection of Watanabe-dori and Meiji-dori, the closer you are to the heart of the Tenjin Subway Station. Perhaps the closest street-level subway entrances would be either at the front of the Fukuoka Building 福岡ビル or in front of the Tenjin Building 天神ビル which is on the opposite corner of that intersection.
- Upon descending through either of these entrances, you’ll find yourself at a huge, underground pedestrian intersection. You are in between the East and West Subway Entrances. Follow the signs to either entrance. If necessary, seek assistance at the Information Booth 案内所 located at the center of this busy foot traffic intersection.
- Find a subway ticket machine, and purchase a ¥250 ticket (to Nishijin 西新) from any of the automated subway ticket vending machines lining the entrance. Instructions are also in English.
- You’ll need to line up on the platform whose trains are headed west (Meinohama Karatsu 姪浜・唐津方面) and not east (Fukuoka Airport 福岡空港). Here’s a weekday timetable for west-bound trains.
- Take any west-bound train. Nishijin is 4 stops from Tenjin and a 7-minute ride.
- Here’s a map of the Nishijin Subway Station area in Japanese (The left-side is west and the right-side, east.) Exit the Nishijin Station using Exit 1 which will lead you up to the street-level.
- Turn right at the top of the stairs and walk along the sidewalk until you’ve reached the busy intersection.
- It takes less than five minutes from this point. Walk north about 150 meters and then turn left. Go up about 100 meters, and on the right will be the south gate to Seinan University. Look for signs or ask the security personnel where to go from there.
By Taxi
- The daytime taxi fee to get from Tenjin Station to Seinan University would run you close to ¥2000 (not using the City Expressway), and the ride would take about between 14-20 minutes. Rates increase 20% between the hours of 23:00 and 5:00.
