Traveling from Fukuoka University to Hakata:
By Subway
- Take the Subway from Fukudai-mae station. Purchase a ticket for 290 yen (to Hakata博多) from a ticket vending machine.
- Take a train bound for Tenjin-Minami 天神南. Tenjin-Minami is ten stops from Fukudai-mae and the last stop. It’s a 16-minute ride.
- From there, you’ll have to transfer to a Kuko (Airport) Line Subway 空港線.
- THE TRANSFER: When exiting Tenjin-Minami Subway Station, be sure you use the GREEN “transfer” ticket gate. Don’t forget to pick up your ticket. There should be signs in English indicating the location of the transfer ticket gate, along with signs leading you along the way to Tenjin Station on the Kuko Line. Be sure to keep your ticket with you.
- Walk 5-10 minutes through the Tenjin Underground Shopping Mall, for about 550 meters. After 5-10 minutes, you’ll see Tenjin Station. You have 120 minutes to transfer using the ticket you bought. Insert your ticket into the ticket gate and proceed to the platforms.
- Take an east-bound train for Fukuoka Airport 福岡空港. Do not take a train bound for Kaizuka貝塚 or any west-bound trains. Here’s a weekday timetable for east-bound trains from Tenjin. (On the timetable, trains bound for Kaizuka are marked with red 貝.)
- Hakata 博多 is just 3 stops away (5 minutes).
- At Hakata, follow signs to JR Hakata station or the Bus center. If you are not sure how to get to your destination, visit the Hakata Station General Information Center.
By Taxi
- If you take a taxi from Fukuoka University to Hakata, the daytime fare will be more than 3000 yen.
- Another alternative is to get off the Subway at Yakuin 薬院 Station, which is the 8th stop from Fukudai-mae, and use a taxi from there. The daytime taxi fare from Yakuin to Hakata is about 1200 yen, and the ride would take 12-15 minutes.
- Rates increase 20% between the hours of 23:00 and 5:00.
